Bucket Filling. One child. One book. One session at a time.

While the bucketfilling concept is not new, we believe that our book, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?  A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids" is the first book that explains this life-enhancing concept to young children.  If you know of another source, write us and let us know.

Author fills buckets to help battle bullying

In a world where putdowns are sport and bad feelings pass from person to person like a handshake, a small story about what it takes to make someone feel good about themselves, and how it makes you feel good about yourself, is needed now more than ever, said Carol McCloud, Brighton Township resident. (Christopher Nagy, Daily Press & Argus)

Have You Filled a Bucket Today? is a story about giving, in a very simple way, or as Jesus said, "Love one another, as I have loved you."  Important in all of lives as breathing and eating and drinking and caring for our bodies, is the ability and capacity to love and care for others.  It's a simple message that packs a big punch.  (Pastor Lynda, United Church of Cloverdale)

Helping kids fill their "buckets"

McCloud said children need to feel loved and cared about, but they must also learn to show love and care toward others.  "The key to a happy life is not only receiving only love," she said, "but giving it."

McCloud passed out "pledge sheets" to the students, asking them to write down one way that they fill someone else's bucket every day this summer.  "The idea," McCloud said, "is teaching kids to be "other-centered.  If everyone followed bucketfilling principles, it would be a different world."  (Matt Doran, Novi News)

Making a difference

Teaching kids the power of being positive

Carol McCloud doesn't mind looking goofy for a good cause.  She travels to schools donning oversized glasses to better see the imaginary buckets held up by the students.

"We always tell kids 'You should be nice,' instead of teaching that you get so much joy in thinking of others; you feel good when others feel good," says McCloud.  (Chelsea Clark, Metro Parent Magazine)
